Our library was founded on May 22, 1983 as a public library. It has the status of a universal scientific library. It is subordinated to the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions.
In terms of content, the library’s collection is universal, with a total of more than 3 million documents.
The library is responsible for the comprehensive collection and preservation of local history literature and local publications. It has rare editions of past centuries, local periodicals, starting with some periodicals of the nineteenth century.
The collection of rare and valuable editions includes: old prints of Cyrillic and civil fonts (1651-1800), books with autographs, bookplates, a collection of periodicals of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, large format editions and miniature books.
A significant part of the collection includes patent and regulatory documents, abstracts of scientific and technical information centers. More than 2 thousand titles of periodicals from 1943 to the present day. Literature in 127 languages.
Main activities: library and information services to users, socio-cultural and educational activities, research work in the field of library science and bibliography, methodological assistance to public libraries of the region.
Reference and bibliographic apparatus: systematic and alphabetical catalogs, catalogs for special types of publications, systematic card index of articles, etc.
The library is developing as an information center and has a corporate computer network of more than 200 computers. More than 60 workstations (automated workplaces) with access to the Internet have been created for users.
Information and resource centers are open for users: The Legal Information Center, the Intellectual Property Information and Consultation Center, the Fiction Center, and the Training Center.
The total number of readers per year is 45-50 thousand, who visit the library about 200 thousand times and receive more than 2 million documents.
