Rare and valuable book fund

Library

In order to preserve cultural monuments, the library established the Rare and Valuable Book Fund in 2007. A commission of experts selected 4587 copies for this fund. From the general collection of the library, which includes 700 thousand printed documents, the publications for the FRCC were selected according to the following criteria

  • year of publication (before 1950);
  • artistic design;
  • content;
  • bibliographic value.

The FRCC includes technical scientific and educational literature, fiction, art books, miniature editions and works of Marxist-Leninist classics, as well as many publications on mining and mechanical engineering. The publications are also available in foreign languages.

The FRCC has a large number of dictionaries: several volumes of the 1904 Encyclopedia of Industrial Knowledge, the Technical Encyclopedia, the Agricultural Encyclopedia, and various technical reference books published in the early 20th century.

Since 2011, the FRCC has been forming a collection of miniature publications in all fields of knowledge, as well as works of art from different years of publication.

In addition to being reflected in library catalogs, the collection of these books is presented at various thematic visual and virtual exhibitions.

Interestingly decorated and valuable copies have been digitized.

Thus, the creation of a FRCC like ours is an important criterion for the history of the library and the university, for the organization of preservation of book riches as a cultural heritage for future generations.
